rselle Posted November 29, 2010 at 03:37 AM Report Share Posted November 29, 2010 at 03:37 AM We just completed the vote count for our executive board members all but one won by a large margin. We mailed out ballots and they were returned by mail. we had a tie vote for president we did a recount and confirmed it was a tie. what is the procedure for a tie vote for president ?, our bylaws are clear that if it is not covered Roberts Rules and a tie is not covered. Kim Goldsworthy Posted November 29, 2010 at 03:44 AM Report Share Posted November 29, 2010 at 03:44 AM What is the procedure for a tie vote for president? The solution is: "round two."Whenever there is a tie (i.e., no winner), then the normal step is to conduct another round of balloting. There is no tie-break mechanism in Robert's Rules of Order. Or, rather, the only tie-break mechanism is to re-vote.Granted, circumstances (an annual general meeting, for example) might imply that no round two will be possible. Rev Ed Posted November 29, 2010 at 04:06 AM Report Share Posted November 29, 2010 at 04:06 AM For elections, a tie vote requires a re-vote. For any other issue, a tie vote is the same as defeating a motion.
