ray1 Posted December 3, 2010 at 03:52 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2010 at 03:52 PM A local president has the authority to appoint a constitution committee but at the last monthly meeting fails to mention the members of that committee because he stated there wasn't any as of yet but he reads changes being proposed to the constitution & bylaws, he is the chair. We have language that states anyone can make constitution changes with at least nine members of good standing signing a said petition and presented three days before such a meeting so it may be read only and not discussed. It is read at the next meeting and is to be discussed at the following meeting. When we get the posting of these changes he states that he is presiding over the Constitution committee. What was read at the earlier meeting is not what is posted for review for the membership to vote at the next meeting, additional language was inputted in the posting. We still do not have any knowledge who is on the constitution committee. Can the president be the chair of that committee? Can the changes that he proposed and read be voted on at the next meeting? It seems as though they violated Roberts rules.
jstackpo Posted December 3, 2010 at 04:09 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2010 at 04:09 PM The president could indeed appoint him/herself chair of the committee - from what you say his authority is.Whether the changed wording renders the notice invalid is up to you and your association to decide. Raise a point of order if you don't like the way things are going.

If adopted, the action will be null and void. See page 244.-Bob
