Guest Sally Wagaman Posted January 4, 2011 at 01:17 AM Report Share Posted January 4, 2011 at 01:17 AM Our organization's Constitution has the following requirement for amendments: The Constitution may be amended by Council in Convention by a two-thirds vote provided a written notice of such amendment shall have been mailed to each member not less than nine weeks prior to the meeting.Assuming an amendment has been properly mailed to the members, can that amendment then be amended at the meeting - assuming the subsidiary amendment is within the scope of the notice. If yes, does the subsidiary amendment need a majority or 2/3 vote? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

If yes, does the subsidiary amendment need a majority or 2/3 vote? Yes, exactly. As long as you remain within the scope of the notice, amendments are in order. These amendments need only a majority vote to be agreed to. But then the main motion (as amended or not) still requires a 2/3 vote to be adopted, amending the existing bylaws.
