David A Foulkes Posted January 25, 2011 at 12:25 PM Report Share Posted January 25, 2011 at 12:25 PM when a position has been declined just before installation and no one else wants it, what can the solution be?Find out why. Perhaps no one wants it because there's a (mis)perception of the duties. Maybe there is too much in-fighting on your board and no one wants to get into the middle of it. Maybe the Treasurer's duties need to be reviewed and refined. Maybe you need to grow your membership, in hopes of getting in someone who will. Also, nothing in RONR prevents one of the existing board members to hold the office as well. I think it's more common than you'd think.Next time it will be the secretary, or president, and you'll be a similar (and possibly worse) situation. If you've run out of "leaders", it may just be time to pack it in. A group made up entirely of "followers" doesn't usually go anywhere.
Kim Goldsworthy Posted January 25, 2011 at 03:21 PM Report Share Posted January 25, 2011 at 03:21 PM when a position has been declined just before installation and no one else wants it, what can the solution be?treasurer declined position, no one else wants it.There is no "solution". -- The problem isn't supposed to ever appear. The temporary work-around is to have one (already-serving!) officer be assigned the duties of Treasurer, temporarily, until the open position can be filled.Alternatively, a non-officer can be the targeted person (or be the willing volunteer). But if you cannot get a candidate from your pool of membership, I seriously doubt you'll get a volunteer from that same pool of people.
