Deb Parm Posted April 1, 2018 at 02:19 PM Report Share Posted April 1, 2018 at 02:19 PM One of our board members has taken an intense dislike to our president. Any emails from the president are responded to in a negative fashion and she makes false accusations. These are getting more negative and argumentative. The president is handling the emails with appropriate responses and does not enter into arguments with the member. We will be having an in-person meeting in the near future and I anticipate issues. We do not have a Sergeant-at-Arms. Other than the president, who can step in if the comments get too negative or turn into a personal attack? jstackpo Posted April 1, 2018 at 02:48 PM Report Share Posted April 1, 2018 at 02:48 PM Anybody can raise a point of order if something egregious happens. See page 247 and, if things get really bad, Chapter 20.
Guest Who's Coming to Dinner Posted April 1, 2018 at 03:24 PM Report Share Posted April 1, 2018 at 03:24 PM Anticipating such trouble, the President should set a very formal tone at the upcoming meeting. If the troublemaker says something seriously out of line, any member can interrupt by saying "I call the member to order." This is a point of order that the chair will usually take well and then instruct the troublemaker accordingly. If the bad behavior persists after warnings, the board may impose immediate discipline ranging from a demanded apology to ejection from the meeting.
