Guest Pam Posted June 24, 2010 at 03:11 AM Report Share Posted June 24, 2010 at 03:11 AM The President and Vice President are both unable to attend a regularly scheduled Homeowners meeting. The immediate past president has agreed to chair the meeting. No voting will take place. Does the President need to submit a statement giving the IPP power to run the meeting, or should there be an election of those present for the IPP to be the temporary President? Chris Harrison Posted June 24, 2010 at 03:20 AM Report Share Posted June 24, 2010 at 03:20 AM If the President and VP won't be there the Secretary (or another member if also absent) would call the meeting to order and preside over the election of a Chair pro tem (who can be the IPP if the assembly wishes) who would preside over the rest of the session. Trina Posted June 24, 2010 at 03:21 AM Report Share Posted June 24, 2010 at 03:21 AM The President has no such power (designating someone else to run the meeting), at least not under the rules in RONR, so the President's statement of his/her wishes carries no weight in a parliamentary sense. Those at the meeting could choose to elect the immediate past president as chair pro tem (i.e. someone who will chair the meeting).
Rev Ed Posted June 24, 2010 at 03:58 AM Report Share Posted June 24, 2010 at 03:58 AM The Secretary, or another member, could call the meeting to order and state something like this "If no one objects, I would like to call on the Immediate Past President, Mr./Ms. _____, to act as Chair Pro Tem for the meeting. (Silence) As no one objects, Mr./Ms. will now tkae the Chair." If someone objects (which will be unlikely based on previous expereince), then there would have to be nominations and a vote. Trina Posted June 24, 2010 at 12:59 PM Report Share Posted June 24, 2010 at 12:59 PM Another of those "special" meetings? It would have to be really 'special', since it apparently is a regular meeting, not a called meeting:The President and Vice President are both unable to attend a regularly scheduled Homeowners meeting....Can't blame this one on a creatively written call to meeting
