Janet Fisher Posted February 15, 2011 at 03:02 PM Report Share Posted February 15, 2011 at 03:02 PM Assume: Item on Agenda; motion and second made to approve; vote = 2 for/2 against/1 abstain. Motion failed. How does this item get brought up for reconsideration at the next meeting? Can we just put it on the Agenda again or do we follow the Reconsideration process and require prevailing party to bring it up? If yes, Is there a prevailing party in a vote of this type? Thanks. George Mervosh Posted February 15, 2011 at 03:09 PM Report Share Posted February 15, 2011 at 03:09 PM At the next meeting, it will be too late to reconsider the vote. It can simply be renewed (made again) by anyone. RONR, p. 325ffAnd yes, the prevailing party were those who voted against the motion (but again, it's too late to reconsider the vote)

George Mervosh Posted February 15, 2011 at 03:46 PM Report Share Posted February 15, 2011 at 03:46 PM So, can a Motion to Reconsider only be brought up during the same meeting?Almost always, yes."The making of this motion is subject to time limits, as follows: In a session of one day - such as an ordinary meeting of a club or a one-day convention - the motion to Reconsider can be made only on the same day the vote to be reconsidered was taken. In a convention or session of more than one day, a reconsideration can be moved only on the same day the original vote was taken or on the next succeeding day within the session on which a business meeting is held. These time limitations do not apply to standing or special committees (see pp. 318-19)." RONR, p.
