jstackpo Posted February 24, 2011 at 02:39 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2011 at 02:39 PM I'm willing to bet that Margaret means postponing voting on some (pending) motion.Nothing to it! Just move to postpone further consideration of the motion/issue until the next meeting, or some other later time (not past the next meeting, however). You will need a majority to agree with you, of course. RONR p. 172.
Kim Goldsworthy Posted February 24, 2011 at 05:44 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2011 at 05:44 PM I would like to know how to stay the vote.Unclear."Stay the vote" for how long?"Stay the vote" for what purpose?"Stay the vote" with what end result desired? How can you tell that a "vote is stayed"? What would be going on, if this were to occur?
Josh Martin Posted February 24, 2011 at 10:14 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2011 at 10:14 PM I'm willing to bet that Margaret means postponing voting on some (pending) motion.Nothing to it! Just move to postpone further consideration of the motion/issue until the next meeting, or some other later time (not past the next meeting, however). You will need a majority to agree with you, of course. RONR p. 172.It should be clear, however, that this postpones the entire motion, not just the vote on it. The motion will be subject to further debate, amendment, and subsidiary motions at the next meeting.
