Meeting Precedence

8 members of our club signed a petition requesting a special meeting, in accordance with our bylaws.

Our request has been ignored for 20 days.

Now the Board has called a Regular Meeting. Does the Board need to have the Special Meeting before they can call a Regular Meeting,

since the Special Meeting was request before the Regular Meeting was called

Read your bylaws for any special rules.

Special Meetings must be scheduled before the next regular meeting, but whether requesting the meeting in any way mandates a specific scheduled date is something you will have to figure out from your own bylaw rules describing your petition process. RONR doesn't deal with "petitions" or how special meeting dates are set at all.

It does sound s though your Board is playing a bit fast and loose with the common intent of a special meeting, however. Is there any reason why you cannot bring up your special meeting concerns - i.e., make the appropriate motions(s) - at the upcoming regular meeting?

And how can the board "call" a "regular meeting" anyway? Regular meetings are, well, regularly scheduled ahead of time, commonly in the bylaws. Sound like the Board's meeting is a Special Meeting also. Do the bylaws authorize the Board to call special meetings?
