standing vote vs show of hands

Clarification please: is a standing vote required for all 2/3rds votes. Example: small group--is show of hands acceptable for previous question, etc. ? Does RONR state any requirements for standing vote except for "division of the assembly"

The chairman is obligated to determine the decision of the assembly by a means that he/she feels is reliable and accurate. Voice vote might be acceptable. Upon demand of one member, a rising vote" must be taken. IMO, a "rising vote" means that the members indicate their preference by a visible signal such as standing or raising their hand as opposed to answering yes or no. If the rising vote does not appear conclusive, the chairman or the assembly could proceed to a counted vote, roll call vote, ballot vote, etc.

A voice vote is not used when the motion requires a two-thirds vote.

In small bodies a show of hands can be used in lieu of a rising vote "...if [the chairman] prefers and no one objects.", RONR (10th ed.), p. 397, l. 23. Otherwise, a rising vote should be used, unless the body has ordered another method of voting.
