kmhawkes Posted March 29, 2011 at 02:38 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2011 at 02:38 PM If a Regular Meeting is cancelled due to weather, how should rescheduling be handled?Should the new date be announced when it's decided that the meeting will not be held?If notice is not given at that time, but the President decides to try to call a meeting the following week, would that be considered a special meeting? Chris Harrison Posted March 29, 2011 at 02:55 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2011 at 02:55 PM If a Regular Meeting is cancelled due to weather, how should rescheduling be handled?Should the new date be announced when it's decided that the meeting will not be held?If notice is not given at that time, but the President decides to try to call a meeting the following week, would that be considered a special meeting?RONR does not provide for a mechanism for canceling (or rescheduling) meetings so if you all want to make that possible it will be up to you all to draft the rules. Special Meetings are only permitted if the bylaws specifically permit them and all notice requirements must be followed (RONR pp. 89-90).
George Mervosh Posted March 29, 2011 at 03:29 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2011 at 03:29 PM Agreeing with Chris, if a quorum couldn't be achieved due to the poor weather, those that did show up at the appointed date and time could set the date and time for an adjourned meeting (which is not the same thing as a special meeting). See §22. FIX THE TIME TO WHICH TO ADJOURN, beginning on p. 234 in RONR for all of the details.
