TROfficial Posted April 7, 2011 at 02:04 PM Report Share Posted April 7, 2011 at 02:04 PM my organization had a meeting back in october. We opened nominations for an election...chose 3 potential officiers...and closed nominations. We also set a vote date for a few months from this time. Before our next meeting the president informed us that he was going to re open nominations and was doing so without a vote from the board. Is this correct procedure? he also informed us that this election could be won without a majority vote....is that correct?Any info/advice is greatly appreciated. jstackpo Posted April 7, 2011 at 02:12 PM Report Share Posted April 7, 2011 at 02:12 PM The answer to both your questions is "probably not". And "No" for sure if you stick to RONR.However, the definitive answers will have to be extracted from your bylaws and other adopted rules of order.Do the bylaws put explicit restrictions on the timing, &c. of the nomination process?Do the bylaws give the president the unilateral authority to re open nominations?Do the bylaws authorize a plurality (non-majority wins) election? If anybody, like the president, answers "Yes", ask to see chapter and verse. Josh Martin Posted April 7, 2011 at 08:59 PM Report Share Posted April 7, 2011 at 08:59 PM my organization had a meeting back in october. The President was mistaken on both points, however, it's too late to raise a Point of Order.
