Guest Tony B Posted April 20, 2011 at 03:59 AM Report Share Posted April 20, 2011 at 03:59 AM Our Area Chairperson is also the Vice Chairperson of one of our sub-committees.The by-law states that the Chairperson is an ex-officio member of all sub-committees. So, why would the Area Chairperson have to be voted in as Vice Chairperson of a sub-committee when they're already a member. Ex-officio title keeps the Chairperson neutral on issues effecting all the sub-committees, but once they join the one sub-committee it would be very hard to be neutral. Thats why I think the position is ex-officio member.

And remember that, just because he may wear two hats, he still has only one vote.
Rev Ed Posted April 20, 2011 at 04:25 PM Report Share Posted April 20, 2011 at 04:25 PM An ex-officio member is a member - it simply means that the person (the Chairperson in this case) is a member of the Committee because he/she is the Chairperson. Unless the by-laws specifically state otherwise, the Chairperson could be vice-chairperson of this committee.
