Reading of minutes

At our last regular meeting, the reading of the minutes was dispensed with due to the length of the agenda and the minutes were taken by a secretary protem as the secretary was absent. The secretary will again be absent at the next regular meeting. Can, and should, the minutes (at this point of two precious meetings) be read by another officer?

The Secretary pro tem should perform all the in-meeting duties that the Secretary does.

Why, in the year 2011, are you "reading" the minutes at all? "Reading" minutes might have made sense in 1911, but not 2011. Why don't you just distribute a draft copy and members can read them. We have copiers, word processing programs on personal computers and inexpensive printers in 2011. Also, if the minutes are lengthy, then perhaps they contain what was "said" and not just what was "done".

For one thing, if RONR is the PA, they must be read on the demand of a single member, even if they have been distributed in advance. If an orgzanization does not wish to follow that rule, they would need to adopt a special rule of order to specify that they will not be read.
