Guest Dan Posted July 5, 2011 at 08:06 PM Report Share Posted July 5, 2011 at 08:06 PM The members of a committee elected their own committee chair. The members now want to remove the person from the position. Is it simply a matter of rescinding the election and holding a new election or must there be a hearing? Also, how would one get this on the agenda for the meeting, presuming that the chair refuses to place this item on the agenda? Please include citations in the response. Thanks very much for your assistance.Dan

You can Rescind the Chairman's election (though he would still be a committee member). See RONR p. 168, pp. 293-299, pp. 475-480.
Gary Novosielski Posted July 5, 2011 at 11:09 PM Report Share Posted July 5, 2011 at 11:09 PM Also, how would one get this on the agenda for the meeting, presuming that the chair refuses to place this item on the agenda? Please include citations in the response. This presumes (incorrectly) that a committee chair has control of the agenda, which is not the case. Unless adopted formally, the agenda is just a list of topics that the chair thinks is pretty, and is no more official than his grocery list.See FAQ 14 for a detailed explanation and citation.
