Guest Matthew Posted August 18, 2011 at 05:49 PM Report Share Posted August 18, 2011 at 05:49 PM Can the chairman not carry a motion that was voted by majority vote? For example the vote is 7 "aye" to 4 "no." Can the chairman say no. I will not carry the vote because it is too close?

The chair has no power to overlook or change the voting threshold, and the chair does not "carry" a vote. He announces the result, whether or not he likes the result.
