Guest Guest Posted September 12, 2011 at 04:00 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 04:00 PM If a Chairman wishes to recuse himself from an agenda topic due to a pecuniary interest in that agenda item, and the vice-chair is unable to attend the meeting, can the Chairman appoint a temporary chair from among the Board members present or does it need to be one of the remaining Executive Officers, i.e. the Secretary, Treasurer or Finance Officer? Chris Harrison Posted September 12, 2011 at 04:36 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 04:36 PM The Chairman can appoint a Chairman pro tem (if it is a meeting of the General Membership his choices are not limited to the officers or Board members) although the assembly can make their own nominees in which case a vote is taken with all the nominees. (RONR pp. 382-383, p. 437).
jstackpo Posted September 12, 2011 at 06:51 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 06:51 PM Or, I would presume, if the assembly had enough faith in the integrity of the chairman, it could refuse to grant permission for him to appoint a pro-temp chair.
