Guest Paul E Posted October 13, 2011 at 04:41 PM Report Share Posted October 13, 2011 at 04:41 PM While a motion is being voted on be members of the board, one member is called on for her vote and she wishes to discuss an item further, what is the protocol for this request? Is the president required to allow the board member to talk and ask questions to clarify items before her vote is cast, or is this board member not allowed to engage in this? Thank you. Rev Ed Posted October 13, 2011 at 04:56 PM Report Share Posted October 13, 2011 at 04:56 PM The protocol would be to rule anymore discussion out of order as debate (discussion) ends when voting begins.

Thank you. After any member has voted, the voting cannot be interrupted. If the motion is debatable, the chair should ask, "Are you ready for the question" or "Is there any debate" before putting the question to a vote. Unless the member was seeking recognition before any member actually voted, it is too late.

It's up to the assembly or the rules of the organization.

Your question had nothing to do with the original.I imagine to the world outside this forum two questions on parliamentary procedure would seem down right similar. Of course, we're not outside this forum.
