It's still possible to elect someone to multiple offices under such a [one-office-at-a-time voting] system, it just takes additional rounds of balloting.

That's true, but when that's done, it's more than half-likely that the bylaws will name the offices in an order (which the elections will follow) such that the most "desirable" offices are voted on first. That would tend to minimize (but not eliminate) the probability that someone already elected president would give up that office to become sergeant-at-arms

But "hey, y'never know", as they say on New York Lottery commercials.

Well, this is entirely true, but Mr. Foulkes was talking about a system in which all the positions are voted on at once, and that is the "such a system" I was referring to. I probably should have been more clear.
