Guest Joyce Hall Posted January 9, 2012 at 08:39 PM Report Share Posted January 9, 2012 at 08:39 PM There is a process for adding an agenda item (suspending rules, voting in the subject to be added etc.).Is there a corresponding procedure for removing an item?If not, is it OK to simply ignor the item - not even mention it - if the group (in this case a Board of Education) has decided in advance that it did not want the subject to be brought up? That process is simply summarized here prior to the agenda being adopted >>> http://www.robertsru...com/faq.html#14 Under the rules in RONR, after an agenda is adopted items can be added or deleted via a motion to amend something previously adopted. RONR, p. 305ffIt's more than likely your Board is operating under some rules outside of RONR. Check with the Board's Solicitor/Attorney.
Guest Joyce Hall Posted January 9, 2012 at 09:28 PM Report Share Posted January 9, 2012 at 09:28 PM Our Board is required to post our agenda at least 24 hours in advance of a meeting. As a result no vote to accept is held.Changes therefore become a big deal. Can an item be ignored with no explanation?Joyce Hall

It's not that complicated under RONR......but again you might be operating under unique rules we have no knowledge of.No. If the agenda isn't amended, under RONR, once the item becomes immediately pending it could be postponed indefinitely (RONR, p. 126ff) which, if adopted by majority vote (it is debatable), kills it for that session. That seems more complicated than to amend the agenda by striking the item, but that's just me.Check what rules really apply, then maybe we can help more if it's RONR that is being used.
