Bill G. Posted February 2, 2012 at 02:29 AM Report Share Posted February 2, 2012 at 02:29 AM At last months meeting, someone made a motion to consider a resolution...several members wanted more information and one member made a motion to postpone indefinitely to allow for more time to get information on the topic of the resolution. No one has complained, but is the original motion essentially tabled or can we discuss it again at the next meeting?Should someone have made a motion to commit the question or refer? tctheatc Posted February 2, 2012 at 02:52 AM Report Share Posted February 2, 2012 at 02:52 AM By postponing indefinitely, you suppressed the motion for the current session. You should be able to bring it up again as a main motion when ever your next session is.Yes, if the intent was to wait until you had more info, referring it to a committee or even postponing it to a certain time would have been the way to go. Rev Ed Posted February 2, 2012 at 02:54 AM Report Share Posted February 2, 2012 at 02:54 AM The motion is not tabled - it was essentially killed when postponed indefinitely. You have to bring the motion back (i.e. someone has to make the motion again.)It would have been better to postpone to definite time (i.e. another meeting) or to have referred the motion to a Committee. J. J. Posted February 2, 2012 at 03:56 AM Report Share Posted February 2, 2012 at 03:56 AM The motion may be renewed, i.e. made again at the next session.
