Guest Faith Posted March 22, 2012 at 03:01 AM Report Share Posted March 22, 2012 at 03:01 AM Our Board of Directors consists members and advisors, including the President, V.P., Secretary, Treasurer and Past President. Our board also has 4 directors at large, a Historian, Parliamentarian, Auditor, and 3 managers. In the past our bylaws state that the The Board of Directors shall consist of up to fifteen members including the elected officers, the past president, Directors at Large and the Bookstore Managers. The Auditor, Committee Chairpersons, the Parliamentarian, the Volunteer Coordinator and the Historian shall act as non-voting advisors. The Library Director, or his/her designated representative, shall serve as an ex-officio non-voting member. We now have members asking why everyone can't vote, even advisors. Should we be allowing everyone to vote? We are in the middle of updating our bylaws so we could change the wording, but should we? We have always considered "members" as being able to vote, "advisors", non voting. If we allow voting to all, we could at some point exceed our 15 member limit. Thanks for your help. Gary c Tesser Posted March 22, 2012 at 05:39 AM Report Share Posted March 22, 2012 at 05:39 AM You'll have to ask yourselves, why did we want the Auditor, &c, not to have a vote? If it's a compelling reason, don't change it. If no one can remember, then ask yourselves, why not?(This is not in Robert's Rules.)

Get a good answer to that and you are on your way to deciding who should have a vote on the board.
