Do email ballots count if the member is not present at the meeting?Voting by email (absentee voting, that is) is not allowed by RONR, and can only be done if authorized by the bylaws. Then, your bylaws or other rules must work out the details. See p. 423 (RONR 11th Ed.) for some details on Absentee Voting.
jstackpo Posted May 3, 2012 at 03:22 PM Report Share Posted May 3, 2012 at 03:22 PM Only if your bylaws provide for absentee voting. If they do, there should be detailed instructions -- if not, you are on your own -- RONR has no rules for this.

Do email ballots count if the member is not present at the meeting? If it only says 'written ballot' that is not properly interpreted to cover ballots that are filled out and submitted (whether by pen or by e-mail, or by some other technology) from a location other than the meeting room.In other words, this phrase does not provide a way to sneak in absentee voting when absentee voting is not specifically authorized by the bylaws.Wait a minute... do your bylaws actually say, in so many words, that 'written' and 'email' shall be used as equivalent terms within the bylaws?
