Guest Sue Stevens Posted May 9, 2012 at 01:49 PM Report Share Posted May 9, 2012 at 01:49 PM Our Employee Association president has called a special meeting to inform members of the proposed contract offer. The information has not been discussed ahead of this meeting. Is is proper to give members the information and then expect to have a vote at the same meeting? I feel that time should be allowed to discussed, think about and calculate details fore making a vote on a three year contract. What would RONR suggest? George Mervosh Posted May 9, 2012 at 02:14 PM Report Share Posted May 9, 2012 at 02:14 PM Unless association is required by its rules to provide the information in advance of the meeting, it's not improper to give the information at the meeting itself. At the meeting itself, the members are not obliged to actually vote on it though. A motion to send the details to a committee and have them report back can be made, and/or you could move to fix the time to which to adjourn (which means set the time for an adjourned meeting - a continuation of this meeting at a time before the next regular meeting of the association) RONR p. 93. A majority vote is needed to do either, or both.
