Guest Scharie Posted May 28, 2012 at 08:03 PM Report Share Posted May 28, 2012 at 08:03 PM HiIs it valid to hold an electronic vote via email? For example, due to time constraints and/or distance logistics, a Board Chair sends out a motion for a vote via email to all Board members. What is the protocol, how must members respond (reply all or simply to the Chair), what if there is discussion and/or proposed amendments, and when does the passed motion and information enter into record? jstackpo Posted May 28, 2012 at 08:20 PM Report Share Posted May 28, 2012 at 08:20 PM Without authorization in your bylaws e-mail voting is completely improper. Don't do it. Such votes can be declared null & void and then where are you, particularly if someone spends money based on an improperly passed motion? If it is authorized, all the details you ask about should be in your bylaws or other rules. RONR doesn't have any.
Rev Ed Posted May 28, 2012 at 09:43 PM Report Share Posted May 28, 2012 at 09:43 PM Is it valid to hold an electronic vote via email?Only if the By-laws (or applicable statute) specifically allows for electronic voting. Otherwise, it's a no under every situation.
Guest Aziza Posted June 2, 2012 at 12:43 AM Report Share Posted June 2, 2012 at 12:43 AM Just a suggestion: Voting by email is probably not a good option, because people can try to cast a ballot outside of the timeframe. It may be better to use an outside company which conducts web-based polls which do not require a secret ballot.or web-based elections which store the voter information and the ballot result separately. For elections or polls with fewer than 10 people, many companies offer their services for free. For 10 or more people, it may cost up to $2 per ballot.
