Kathy Johnson Posted June 1, 2012 at 08:24 PM Report Share Posted June 1, 2012 at 08:24 PM We had an election and its been 6 weeks sice the new treasurer was elected. Due to an illness in his family he has not taken over his responsibiliteis as treasurer and the old one is still doing all the work. Can we replace him? Our bylaws say that all positions have t be elected but we cant waity forever?
jstackpo Posted June 1, 2012 at 09:03 PM Report Share Posted June 1, 2012 at 09:03 PM Can you prevail (sympathetically, of course) on the new treasurer to offer to resign? Then you could accept the resignation, and fill the resultant vacancy by whatever means are located in your bylaws. If that doesn't work, come back here for the next step you could take... Chris Harrison Posted June 1, 2012 at 09:03 PM Report Share Posted June 1, 2012 at 09:03 PM Ask the Treasurer to resign and if he submits his resignation it can be accepted at the next meeting of the body which is authorized to fill the vacancy (the bylaws should specify which body that would be) and then at the next meeting the vacancy can be filled (unless the bylaws say otherwise). If he won't resign you all should ask him when he will be up to performing his duties and if it is too long you all can remove him from office. See FAQ #20 for details.
