jstackpo Posted June 3, 2012 at 12:03 AM Report Share Posted June 3, 2012 at 12:03 AM No.But if the non-member can convince a member to do so, that could be another story.
Tim Wynn Posted June 3, 2012 at 02:12 AM Report Share Posted June 3, 2012 at 02:12 AM Can a member be brought up on charges by a non memberNo, this cannot even be done by a member."If a member introduces a resolution preferring charges unsupported by an investigating committee's recommendation, the chair must rule the resolution out of order, informing the member that it would instead be in order to move the appointment of such a committee…" - RONR(11th ed.), p. 657, l. 33 - p. 658, l. 2. Tim Wynn Posted June 3, 2012 at 02:21 AM Report Share Posted June 3, 2012 at 02:21 AM No.But if the non-member can convince a member to do so, that could be another story.Actually, it's the same story. "An individual member may not prefer charges, even if that member has proof of an officer's or member's wrongdoing." RONR (11th ed.), p 657, ll. 31-33. jstackpo Posted June 3, 2012 at 07:20 AM Report Share Posted June 3, 2012 at 07:20 AM Dang, caught (once again) by the substantial changes to Chapter XX in RONR/11.(RONR/10 said "It is best that an individual member not prefer charges, even if he has proof..." and if he does then another member "should move to postpone this resolution indefinitely...". What was "proper", if not the "best" way to do things, in RONR/10 is now simply out of order in RONR/11. I shall refrain from answering discipline related questions until I have finished memorizing the new Chapter XX. Dan is free to respond "Good!") J. J. Posted June 3, 2012 at 01:44 PM Report Share Posted June 3, 2012 at 01:44 PM Do keep in mind, however, that many groups do have bylaws that permit members to bring charges.
