Guest DJohnson Posted June 25, 2012 at 04:43 PM Report Share Posted June 25, 2012 at 04:43 PM After the second reading, the board wants to change an amendment to an ordinance. Do we amend the amendment on third reading or just change the ordinance and make a motion to accept the changes on thrid reading?
jstackpo Posted June 25, 2012 at 05:13 PM Report Share Posted June 25, 2012 at 05:13 PM There is no requirement for multiple "readings" of an "ordinance" or motion in RONR. So whatever rules you have about your question will have to be found in your adopted documents.
Rev Ed Posted June 25, 2012 at 06:10 PM Report Share Posted June 25, 2012 at 06:10 PM I concur - in RONR land a motion or "ordinance" normally only requires one "reading" - that is when the motion is made (and seconded if required) at a meeting as debate would follow and then a vote. If notice is required, it would simply be a statement that a member plans to move a motion dealing with a specific topic, but not necessarily the exact wording of the motion.
