Guest ToddT Posted June 26, 2012 at 04:05 PM Report Share Posted June 26, 2012 at 04:05 PM We have recently had 2 items "tabled" at Board meetings and we are not sure of the proper way to handle them now.1 - There was a motion and second to approve a number of contracts. During the discussion, a member wished to table 2 of the contracts due to lack of information. The Board made a motion and second to table the 2 contracts, and then voted on the remaining contract. At the next meeting the 2 contracts were placed back on the agenda, a motion and second were made to approve the contracts, no discussion was had and then a vote. Contracts were approved. Should there first have been action to bring the item off the table?2 - There was a motion and second to extend a contract 14 months. During the discussion, a member wished to table the item due to not being comfortable with the value. The Board made a motion a second to table the contract. At our next meeting they wish to only offer a 2 month contract. What is the proper way to handle this? Thanks,Todd
Chris Harrison Posted June 26, 2012 at 04:28 PM Report Share Posted June 26, 2012 at 04:28 PM 1) Yes but the fact that didn't happen doesn't invalidate anything.2) No differently than if the motion had not been laid on the table. Also, from your posting it is unclear if a vote was taken on either motion to Lay On The Table which it should have been. Gary c Tesser Posted June 27, 2012 at 01:17 PM Report Share Posted June 27, 2012 at 01:17 PM Chris, Thank you for the response. Also, there was a 5-0 vote to table in both cases. If this had been handled properly, then, there would have had to be fewer than zero votes in opposition, in order to take the motions off the table. Fortunately nobody noticed or counted.
