George Mervosh Posted June 29, 2012 at 08:22 PM Report Share Posted June 29, 2012 at 08:22 PM Maybe. We don't know how members become members in your group, at least precisely how, even though you mention electing them. RONR states:" Usually the article on members consists of several sections, covering, for example: (1) classes of members - as "active," "associate," and the like - with any distinctions between them being set forth, and, as applicable, the rights of each, and any limitation on their number; and (2) qualifications or eligibility for membership, with application and acceptance procedures, including the method of reviewing and voting on applications........."RONR (11th ed.), p. 571, ll. 20-27 emphasis added. If a motion is required, or made, it would be a main motion, and therefore it would be debatable. Guest Edgar Posted June 29, 2012 at 08:23 PM Report Share Posted June 29, 2012 at 08:23 PM Is there a motion made when electing a new member?, Is there discussion?Generally speaking, if your organization requires that new members be "elected", then one member would make a motion, another member would second the motion, debate would ensue, then you'd vote. Your rules may vary.
