jstackpo Posted July 17, 2012 at 12:36 AM Report Share Posted July 17, 2012 at 12:36 AM Yes -- it dies if not taken from the table at the meeting/session following the one in which it was tabled. p. 301.However, after that next meeting, the motion can be made all over again at any following meeting, as New Business. Trina Posted July 17, 2012 at 10:53 AM Report Share Posted July 17, 2012 at 10:53 AM After a motion has been tabled and is not taken up for several months, can it then be removed from consideration? It's not just that it can be removed from consideration, it's that it basically disappears (dies) all by itself if not taken from the table by the next regular business session. It also dies if more than a quarterly time interval goes by before that next regular business session takes place. See RONR (11th ed.), top of p. 302. Nobody has to do anything to dispose of it further (no ceremonial 'burial of the body' is required ).

Tim Wynn Posted July 17, 2012 at 10:49 PM Report Share Posted July 17, 2012 at 10:49 PM After a motion has been tabled and is not taken up for several months, can it then be removed from consideration?I suspect that you might be asking if the motion or any future iteration of it will become out of order, sort of like milk going bad from sitting on the "table" too long. That is not the case. The motion simple falls from the table at the close of the next session, and it can be made anew at any following session, so long as it is not otherwise out of order.
