Guest kimmsue1 Posted August 22, 2012 at 04:08 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 04:08 PM I understand votes can be taken through email if it is in the bylaws. Can a council actually discuss a topic and make a motion through emailing each other back and forth?
Chris Harrison Posted August 22, 2012 at 04:30 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 04:30 PM Yes, though you all need to make sure that you have rules in place for dealing with all of the combinations and permutations that will arise. For example, you would need to have rules in place on how to deal with Points of Order and Appeals (including what to do with debate that is sent in after the Point of Order is raised-maybe the member didn't read the whole thread before replying and so didn't see that the question got changed). See this series of articles for some help in how to hold e-meetings.
Rev Ed Posted August 22, 2012 at 06:01 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2012 at 06:01 PM Or better yet, don't do it at all. It is easier that way.
