Guest Louise Posted October 6, 2012 at 03:01 AM Report Share Posted October 6, 2012 at 03:01 AM Our bylaws state that each member is entitled to one vote at any meeting at which he is present. Does this override Robert's Rules which say that the president does not vote except in the case of a roll call or ballot vote?
jstackpo Posted October 6, 2012 at 07:09 AM Report Share Posted October 6, 2012 at 07:09 AM Nope; RONR does not say that the (member) president cannot vote - just that he/she shouldn't vote.
Guest Edgar Posted October 6, 2012 at 11:14 AM Report Share Posted October 6, 2012 at 11:14 AM . . . Robert's Rules which say that the president does not vote except in the case of a roll call or ballot vote? That's not exactly what RONR says. See FAQ #1. David A Foulkes Posted October 6, 2012 at 12:53 PM Report Share Posted October 6, 2012 at 12:53 PM Your bylaw simply restates what is already written on p. 407. The president, if a member, is always entitled to one and only one vote under RONR, just like every other member. But there are times when he should not exercise that right, and your rule does not address that issue at all.
