our by-laws state Nominations in Nov. voted on in Dec, and installed in December! The Pres .instructed me to post a notice that more Nominations will be accepted in Dec. before voting takes place. Is this permissible or in violation of our own By-laws??

Depends on the exact wording of the bylaws.

However, unless nominations from the floor are specifically prohibited by the bylaws, such nominations are in order at the election meeting anyway (RONR 11th ed. p. 435 ll. 9-15). Also, it would generally be in order for someone to make a motion to re-open nominations (unless the bylaws prohibit further nominations) at the election meeting. Whether the president should make this announcement ahead of time is another question.

Not necessarily. The citation you are referring to notes that nominations from the floor are called for after the report of the nominating committee. Nothing in RONR suggests that the chair shall automatically call for nominations from the floor if the initial nominations are by mail, or from the floor at a previous meeting, or by some other method.

I concur, however, that it is in order to reopen nominations unless the Bylaws provide otherwise.

It is permissible, according to RONR, for nominations to take place. In fact, it's required in some circumstances.

But whether it is in violation of your own bylaws is something we would have no way of knowing, having no idea what they say.

Do by-laws supercede Robert's Rules of order?

And if you wish to pursue this further, please start a New Topic rather than continuing in Guest_sec'y_Miles' question, even though it seems to be related. It just works better that way for everyone involved, particularly you the questioner.

Of course, if you're done here, never mind.
