Guest Jillmcf Posted February 6, 2013 at 02:18 PM Report Share Posted February 6, 2013 at 02:18 PM If a formal agenda is prepared and published, is it still necessary to begin each topic with a motion to bring the item forward for discussion? jstackpo Posted February 6, 2013 at 02:23 PM Report Share Posted February 6, 2013 at 02:23 PM Yes. The exact details of whatever is proposed should be in that motion.Otherwise, with a "topic" for discussion and little else, where are you? (In a loooong meeting, that's where.) Guest Goopher Posted February 6, 2013 at 02:57 PM Report Share Posted February 6, 2013 at 02:57 PM It's probably dyslexia, but I have a variant reading of the question:Is it necessary to have a motion of the form "I move we bring item N forward for discussion" approved before motions on item N can be made? Sean Hunt Posted February 6, 2013 at 03:51 PM Report Share Posted February 6, 2013 at 03:51 PM It's probably dyslexia, but I have a variant reading of the question:Is it necessary to have a motion of the form "I move we bring item N forward for discussion" approved before motions on item N can be made?Let's suppose it was. Then you'd first need a motion to be able to bring your motion forward. "I move we bring discussion of bringing forward item N for discussion forward." But then that can't be introduced without a motion...So no. Make your motion.
