President put in the "penalty box"

Say the assembly decides to Suspend the Rules and elect a Chair pro tem because the President has been acting out of control and needs to be reined in. The original intent is to have the pro tem preside until the end of the session but a member seeing that the President has gotten himself under control wants to give him a second chance. How would a member go about getting the President back in the chair? Would a motion to declare the chair vacant be the proper approach to take or would there be a more appropriate way? What vote would be required?

A motion to declare the chair vacant and appoint the regular presiding officer as chair would be proper and would require a majority vote for adoption.

Why not 2/3, either as a suspension of the rules or as amending something previously adopted?

As I understand it, when the assembly suspended the rules this did not prohibit the regular presiding officer from presiding. Rather, it took away his authority to preside automatically, making him the same as any other member. Therefore, appointing him as chairman pro tempore doesn't conflict with the previous motion.
