pamcelesnik Posted March 24, 2014 at 08:39 AM Report Share Posted March 24, 2014 at 08:39 AM Can a club keep a suspended member form attending a function that is held in a pubic forum?(our animal shows are open to the public But have to be sanctioned by clubs chartered through us . , We have a suspended member who is not allowed to show her animals because of the suspension No affiliated club is allowed to take her entries. The problem arose this last weekend, she pre- entered a show, entered the animals in her son's name( PS Her son does not show ) she came with the animals and it being a national show someone else shows them not the owners thus getting around the suspension . Can we then write a rule which states that no suspended members are allowed at any event our Chartered clubs have sanctioned ? To end this mockery? Pam Whether or not your member has, in fact, violated the terms of her suspension is not a determination that we can make, nor are we in a position to give advice concerning what sort of restrictions your club should or should not attempt to impose upon its members. jstackpo Posted March 24, 2014 at 10:32 AM Report Share Posted March 24, 2014 at 10:32 AM You can write any rules you wish (within some sort of legal limits, I suppose) but I suspect those rules will have to be adopted into you bylaws in order to be enforceable. And they might also have to be in your parent organization's bylaws a well. You will have to look carefully at both sets of bylaws -- RONR can't help in this regard -- to see what it what. Rev Ed Posted March 24, 2014 at 04:25 PM Report Share Posted March 24, 2014 at 04:25 PM Seeing that this event is open to the public would suggest that the suspended member would be entitled to attend unless the suspension included any 'public' events operated by the club. Then again, it is not up to me to determine the By-laws and rules of the organization allow (or not allow) or to tell you how to handle the situation. This would be to the organization to decide.
