Guest Cheryl Owen Posted May 27, 2014 at 06:21 PM Report Share Posted May 27, 2014 at 06:21 PM I made a motion to close a meeting, set another meeting the following week, & ask that a Board be reorganized. The agenda for this original meeting had not been completed. Is the motion allowed?
Gary Novosielski Posted May 27, 2014 at 07:07 PM Report Share Posted May 27, 2014 at 07:07 PM With respect to setting a time to adjourn and adjourning to that time (a week later) yes. I'm not sure what the motion that a Board be reorganized means in the context of your organization. In any case, it sounds like a separate motion, or perhaps it was intended to be previous notice of intent to make that motion next week. A motion to adjourn is in order, even if the agenda has not been completed.
Timothy Posted May 27, 2014 at 08:31 PM Report Share Posted May 27, 2014 at 08:31 PM Yes, I believe the motion can be allowed. Assuming it received a second, because the parts of the motion are so different from each other, I would expect a call for the division of the question. The order in which the separate parts are handled could be significant.
Bruce Lages Posted May 27, 2014 at 10:20 PM Report Share Posted May 27, 2014 at 10:20 PM I'm pretty sure that one motion to do all three of those things would not be in order. Did you actuallly offer separate motions for at least some of those things? A motion to adjourn to a future date would be in order in most cases.
