Kim Goldsworthy Posted October 30, 2014 at 10:07 PM Report Share Posted October 30, 2014 at 10:07 PM Jennifer,Q. Where do you get your agenda?Q. Who drafts it?Q. By what authority does this party draft it? I am suggesting that you are assuming too much power is held by the party who drafted the agenda. Maybe the agenda has no authority, and isn't binding on the members who are present at the meeting.Maybe the party who drafts the agenda cannot put anything on the agenda legitimately to begin with. Thus the possibility --- You might be "asking permission" from the wrong party. Thus my questions, which you must verify internally with your organization. We can tell you what Robert's Rules says. But it may not apply.
Josh Martin Posted October 31, 2014 at 12:58 AM Report Share Posted October 31, 2014 at 12:58 AM Can any member of the Board request to add an item to the agenda prior to the next regular meeting or do they need a Board majority to add the item for discussion or decision? A majority vote is required to add an item to the agenda when it is pending for adoption. After the agenda is adopted, it requires a 2/3 vote or a vote of a majority of the entire membership to add an item to the agenda. Unless the assembly's rules provide otherwise, however, it is not required to add an item to the agenda in order to have a discussion and decision. A member could simply make the motion during New Business.
