Edgar Guest Posted February 12, 2015 at 08:15 PM Report Share Posted February 12, 2015 at 08:15 PM is there a difference in using terminology and course of action when using the phrase "conflict of interest" as opposed to "declaration of interest"? Are they one in the same? Neither phrase appears in RONR but I'd say they're not one and the same. Don't they look different to you? Can't one declare an interest in something without declaring a conflict of interest?
micky Posted February 12, 2015 at 08:18 PM Author Report Share Posted February 12, 2015 at 08:18 PM I agree but have very sneaky executive BOD members. so what exactly entails declaration of interest? A personal or monetary interest or both?
Richard Brown Posted February 12, 2015 at 08:23 PM Report Share Posted February 12, 2015 at 08:23 PM Mickey, as Mr. Guest pointed out. the term "Declaration of Interest" does not appear in RONR. That appears to be something unique to your organization or is something conjured up by one of your members. Our advice here is based on the rules in RONR. Edgar Guest Posted February 12, 2015 at 09:01 PM Report Share Posted February 12, 2015 at 09:01 PM . . . so what exactly entails declaration of interest? A personal or monetary interest or both? RONR says (p.407) that a member who has a "direct personal or pecuniary interest not common to other members" should refrain from voting on the pending question. There's no need for any "declaration".
