Guest AJ Posted March 4, 2015 at 04:09 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2015 at 04:09 PM I am a member of an organization and the chair of the nominating committee has placed herself in a board position for the next year's slate of officers. Is that legal? Is it ethical? Thanks for any input.AJ
Robert B Fish Posted March 4, 2015 at 04:12 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2015 at 04:12 PM No rule in RONR would prevent it. "Members of the nominating committee are not barred from becoming nominees for office themselves. To make such a requirement would mean, first, that service on the nominating committee carried a penalty by depriving its members of one of their privileges; and second, that appointment or election to the nominating committee could be used to prevent a member from becoming a nominee." Edgar Guest Posted March 4, 2015 at 04:13 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2015 at 04:13 PM The chair is free to nominate herself when nominations from the floor are accepted but she can't, on her own, make herself a selection of the nominating committee (though the committee is free to select her).
