Leo Posted April 21, 2015 at 03:42 PM Report Share Posted April 21, 2015 at 03:42 PM The bylaws state, "the president may establish the standing committees listed with the approval of the assembly." Does the president having the option to establish the committees prohibit the assembly from establishing a listed committee if the president does not exercise his or her option? Gary Novosielski Posted April 21, 2015 at 03:44 PM Report Share Posted April 21, 2015 at 03:44 PM Where are these committees listed? If they're in the bylaws, aren't they already established? Sounds like an oddball bylaws provision, and it's hard to say what it means.
Bruce Lages Posted April 21, 2015 at 07:37 PM Report Share Posted April 21, 2015 at 07:37 PM I'm guessing that in this case "establishing" may mean populating. If the bylaws actually say that the president "may" establish, I don't think that would prohibit the assembly from doing so if the president chooses not to.
