No. And the candidate doesn't have to be present to be elected.

 

But, if he won't be at the election meeting, it's a good idea if he expresses (preferably in writing) his willingness to serve if elected. Otherwise you'll have to wait until he's notified and, if he declines the office (which he has a right to do), you'll have an incomplete election and will have to vote again. Something that may not be convenient.
