Guest ParliPro Posted February 6, 2016 at 01:51 PM Report Share Posted February 6, 2016 at 01:51 PM Can postpone definitely and commit be applied exclusively to lower subsidiary motions or do they need to be applied to a main as well. In the event that they are applied to a main motion, are any subsidiary motions dissolved? Thanks!
jstackpo Posted February 6, 2016 at 02:46 PM Report Share Posted February 6, 2016 at 02:46 PM In the order you asked: 1.a) No, the Main motion only. 1.b) The main motion. Any (lower) subsidiary motions go with the main motion (to whatever destination you specified - future time, or committee) . 2) Some are (I think) some aren't. But it would be a research project to check the book and get details. Have fun!

No, they must be applied to a main motion. 5 hours ago, Guest ParliPro said: In the event that they are applied to a main motion, are any subsidiary motions dissolved? No, for the most part. If a main motion is referred to a committee, a pending motion to Postpone Indefinitely is dropped from further consideration (which I assume is what you mean by "dissolved"). Pending amendments are referred to the committee with the main motion. If a main motion is postponed to a certain time, any pending motions to Postpone Indefinitely, Amend, or Commit are postponed with the main motion.
