Guest Meg Posted September 20, 2017 at 10:16 PM Report Share Posted September 20, 2017 at 10:16 PM We are about to hold our annual general meeting where we elect the Society's board of directors. We have five vacancies. What happens if there are say seven candidates nominated and candidates five and six get the same number of votes. Do we repeat the whole election or only vote to break the tie between candidates five and six? Thank you.

An election would be held again for the fifth seat only, however, this is not simply a tiebreaker. All three of the remaining candidates would be on the ballot, not just the two tied candidates. Write-in votes are also still in order.
Hieu H. Huynh Posted September 21, 2017 at 12:24 AM Report Share Posted September 21, 2017 at 12:24 AM And a candidate has to get a majority vote to be elected (see RONR 11th ed., p. 441).
