Guest D. Dyer Posted November 19, 2017 at 07:26 PM Report Share Posted November 19, 2017 at 07:26 PM A member a motion "until bylaws are voted in place this council can take care of no business". A bylaws committee was created by members who volunteered. The bylaws committee created bylaws, presented them to the executive team, made revisions, presented to executive team a coupe of times. Then a member of the executive team made a motion in closed session (executive team only) to accept bylaws with corrections. there were 5 yes and 4 no. The chair is now stated the bylaws are dead and can never be presented again per Roberts Rules of Order. Is this true?
Richard Brown Posted November 19, 2017 at 07:29 PM Report Share Posted November 19, 2017 at 07:29 PM Guest D. Dyer, I had a very hard time following exactly what happened, but, no, it is not true that RONR prohibits bylaws from every being presented again or amended. More information will help us to give you better answers.
Guest Who's Coming to Dinner Posted November 19, 2017 at 11:25 PM Report Share Posted November 19, 2017 at 11:25 PM What do your existing bylaws say about who can amend them and the process required?
Transpower Posted November 22, 2017 at 02:57 PM Report Share Posted November 22, 2017 at 02:57 PM It only takes a majority to adopt bylaws (assuming these are the first and not amendments to existing bylaws).
