Resignation of a President

The President of our organization resigned via email.  Our order of succession is that the immediate Past President becomes the Chairman of the Board.

Below are my questions:

1.  If a President resigns, does she also resign her Board position?

2.  Can a President rescind her resignation if it was done via email?

3. The BOD's elected our President.  Does the BOD need to officially accept her resignation in order for it to be binding and prevent her from rescinding it?

A resignation must be accepted or acted upon to prevent it from being rescinded. Before it has been accepted or acted upon, it may be withdrawn, email or no email.

Given that the BOD elected the President, how was the BOD selected, and was the President already on the BOD before being elected President?

I am puzzled by your order of succession. If the President's resignation makes the IPP the Chairman of the Board, who was the Chairman prior to the resignation, and who becomes President?

In reverse order:

3. Yes, if a resignation has not been accepted, it may be "withdrawn".  Once accepted, it cannot be "rescinded".

2. Yes, if you mean "withdrawn" prior to being accepted.

1. Not necessarily.  If presidents are elected from among the board members, then it is possible to resign the office of president only.  This would depend on what the resignation said.  It would also be possible to resign both with one e-mail.

0.  How did Chairman of the Board get into this discussion?  And what if the immediate past president became IPP by being removed from the presidency for cause?
