Guest Tracy Stephens Posted September 11, 2018 at 12:04 AM Report Share Posted September 11, 2018 at 12:04 AM Our club recdntly voted to require anyone running for an office must be a member for at least 6 months prior to an election. What happens if all nominees do not have the 6 month requirement? Our interpretation is that we may move forward with the election. Thank, Tracy
Greg Goodwiller, PRP Posted September 11, 2018 at 12:17 AM Report Share Posted September 11, 2018 at 12:17 AM First of all, it is your organization’s responsibility to interpret your own rules. That said, why do you think you can move forward with the election of candidates who you admit do not meet the new requirement?
Hieu H. Huynh Posted September 11, 2018 at 01:13 AM Report Share Posted September 11, 2018 at 01:13 AM If the bylaws were amended to include this rule, they could be amended again to remove this rule.

Our interpretation is that we may move forward with the election. If this requirement was properly adopted as an amendment to the bylaws, then only candidates who meet the requirement may be elected. If the requirement was not adopted as an amendment to the bylaws, it is not valid, and the society may elect whoever it wishes.
