In Camera Meetings

We are a small not for profit charitable organization, with a governance board. Recently, the board has been going in camera, without their executive, to discuss matters of policy that are management in nature, rather than governance. As senior staff, we have asked to be included in order to provide a full and full some overview, however we have been denied that privilege/right. Is there a rule of order that applies here?

Are you a member of the Board?  If you are a Board member then you have a right to attend the meetings.  If you are not a Board member then you only can attend if the Board wants you there.  See RONR pp. 95-96.  Of course, if the organization has any applicable rules saying otherwise they would govern.

While I agree with Mr. Harrison's answer, who or what is this "executive"?  Executive Director? President? Executive Board? Executive chef? Chief executive officer?
