Guest Jim Posted January 22, 2019 at 04:13 AM Report Share Posted January 22, 2019 at 04:13 AM I'm in a club with an election coming up at the next meeting. There will be nominations and then we'll vote. Can I have flyers to pass out prior to the meeting or at the beginning of the meeting stating my credentials? I find no rules against this in our bylaws.
Chris Harrison Posted January 22, 2019 at 04:19 AM Report Share Posted January 22, 2019 at 04:19 AM RONR doesn't prohibit it. However, you may want to check with some members who have been around a while to make sure there hasn't been a rule adopted at some point addressing this. Richard Brown Posted January 22, 2019 at 06:50 AM Report Share Posted January 22, 2019 at 06:50 AM It's called Old Fashioned politicking. Unless your own rules prohibit it, there's nothing in RONR that prohibits it.
Bruce Lages Posted January 22, 2019 at 06:42 PM Report Share Posted January 22, 2019 at 06:42 PM RONR doesn't address what happens prior to a meeting, so there's no issue there, but if by "at the beginning of the meeting" you mean after the meeting has been called to order, that would indeed be problematic. You would need the permission of the assembly, which I suspect might not be granted.
